  • Intro:
    • Ex: Occupational therapy… back to life’s basic building blocks… brush teeth…
    • >>>Basic Christian building blocks… if not in place deformed …
    • Text: Abraham’s Mission
      • Ex: Root and Fruit…
      • Justification= Abraham just by Faith Alone…
        • >>>Good enough for Abraham Good enough for Paul
  • Fruit = Abraham’s Mission 9-16…
  • Point: See your place in the mission of the church as basic fruit of justification…
  • Need: w/o
    • No sense of purpose in church…  self centered purpose…
    • Denies what Christ commissioned and made us for….
  • ***If good enough for Abraham, good enough for Paul, and certainly for us!
  1. 1.      The Faith Basis
  • The Basis of Abraham’s mission…
    • 9-10… “Which comes first?” settles the argument… faith or works…
    • Ex: Which comes first the chicken or the egg… Chicken… that settles the issue…
    • >>Faith is means of Justification not works… b/c faith came first!
  • ***Good enough for Abraham, good enough for Paul…
  • ***We must testify to the Gospel of Jesus…
  1. 2.      The Family Pattern
  • The Pattern,
    • V. 11, “he received circ. as a seal” = Physical Symbolic promise
    • Gen 15:6, “Believed … credited as righteousness… ” c.17 got circumcision…
    • Ex: Baptism… we believe and then baptized…
    • Q: Why?
  • The Family
    • Gen 12, promise… in Gen 14… 300 men in household…. 15:1, no kids! Eliezar of Damascus was his heir…
    • ***He must have preached to them because he’d adopted them
    • Gen 17 Circumcision = Adoption into Abraham’s family
    • Ex: Business people and team trust development training… hold each other as you fall back…  Circumcision… !!! That’s a bonding experience… Hey brother I feel your pain…
  • Abrahams’ Children today…
    • 11b-12… Abraham father of all who believe!
    • Gal 3:14, 29, 6:16…
    • ***Abraham mission pattern must be ours… call to believe and be adopted into his children!
    • Say to them…. “believe and receive the sign… Baptism… & welcome to the family…”
    • ****Go make disciples… baptize… teach them…
  1. 3.      The Divine Promise
  • The Promise
    • Gen 10, table of nations…
    • Gen 11 tower of Babel… spread of the nations throughout the earth…
    • Gene 12.. promise to Abraham, “In you all the tribes of the earth shall be blessed!”
    • 4:13 Promise = “Abe and his descendants would be the Heirs of the world”
    • >>>The Mission was promised by God!
    • ***The Mission of the church is inivitable b/c of the promise!
  • The God who Promises!
    • ***He Promises Justification by Faith… 14-15…
    • >>>14, If by Law  = makes God a liar!!!
    • ***God does not lie!
    • ***God will fulfill his mission…
    • ***He made another promise, “I am with you even to the end of the age!”
    • Conclusion
      • God is with us… in the Holy Spirit… he promises to work among us…
      • ***Do not doubt… no longer faithless that God will build his church…
      • ***God promises to bring in every tribe of people… in every land…
